What a fantastic summer we have had at our trial site. We grew many varieties, some of which were new, some were experimental ones which may be developed and taken into production. Companies which we supply, visited to see which new varieties they would add to their range. Our blight resistant tomatoes performed brilliantly outdoors and showed no signs of any blight or other health issues.
Some of the varieties that shone out with their excellent performance are tomato 'Oh Happy Day', which was launched on Press Day at the RHS Chelsea Flower show. A vocal quartet sang the song of the same name, lighting up the area along with cocktails being created with ingredients growing in the garden. This blight resistant variety has great flavour, sweet with acidic notes.
Watermelon 'Little Darling', this can be grown in an unheated greenhouse, sowing from February to April. The plants can grow on the ground or upright with support. The plant will reward you by producing several juicy, sweet watermelons.
Cucumber 'Merlin', probably one of the best of its type. Very heavy yielding with midi type fruits. This variety impressed us so much with its performance, every day there were cucumbers to be harvested with exceptional taste.
